The most popular entertainment in our home life is television. We have a choice between five channels: First Channel, Russia and 3 commercial channels. There is also a cable TV station in our town. Television plays an important role in our life. It informs people about current events both national and international, the latest achievements in science and culture, and offers some programs, which are both interesting and stimulating. Every day we can see different tips of programs on TV. News is broadcast at regular intervals. They also present operas, ballets, music concerts and various shows. Broadcast for schools are produced on five days of the week, during school hours.
In the late afternoon and early evening TV channels showed special programs for children. In the evenings and at weekends there are broadcasts of sports events. A large time of TV evening’s time is occupied by films and serials, but as for me I like quizzes. A quizzes–program is a question and an answer competition which offers money and other prizes and to the winners. Such programs as «Wonders field», «What, Where, When», «A Hundred to One» are my favorite ones, because they are both informative and interesting.

But best of all I like the programs of «Travellers’ club», because it gives me a chance to travel of other the world with out living home. Far away countries and their customs and traditional are come into my living room.

There are many argues about television. Some people think that watching TV is the waste of time and there is nothing to watch, actually. Other people, especially, seniors prefer to watch TV and they really trust it. To be honest, I am not a fan of it. I agree with the opinion that nowadays there is almost nothing to watch.
However there are the kinds of TV programmes which I really like watching. They are singing contests or talent contests.

Другие люди, особенно, пожилые, предпочитают смотреть телевизор, и они действительно доверяют телевидению. Честно говоря, я не поклонник этого. Я согласна с мнением, что сегодня смотреть практически нечего.
Однако существуют виды телевизионных программ, которые мне очень нравятся. Это песенные конкурсы или конкурсы талантов.
In my opinion, it is a very good opportunity for talented and artistic people to present themselves. For example, sometimes they cannot find the support among the most people they know. So it often happens that such people find the support among wide audience.
На мой взгляд, это очень хорошая возможность для талантливых и творческих людей себя показать. Например, иногда они не могут найти поддержку среди большинства знакомых. Поэтому часто бывает, что такие люди находят поддержку среди широкой аудитории.

My favourite TV programme is The Voice. Besides, I like watching not only Russian version of this programme but the versions of different countries. The Voice is a singing contest. It is quite interesting format of the programme when the jury does not see a participant, so they just listen to him or her. Then if someone of the jury like the singing of a participant, they will press the button and turn to a participant, so it means that he or she will continue the participation in this show.
If no one turns to a participant, he or she will not participate in this contest.
I admire the singing of the participants of this contest. I think there are so many talented and artistic singers among them. I really appreciate this show.

The name of my favorite TV program is “Tonight” (Сегодня вечером). It is presented by the 1st Channel. For your information it’s on schedule at prime time, on Saturday evening; so it is on once a week. As a matter of fact, it’s a talk show, a popular genre of programs in which famous people talk about themselves and their work.
Consequently, the main aim of this program is to entertain. I guess TV viewers watch this program to satisfy their curiosity about household names and to relax after a long tiring week.

I guess, it’s a high quality program because it’s vigorous and vivid.
One anticipates the pleasure from the next episode because one can see the shots from some nice old films or listen to melodious songs- they are the highlights of this program.
Obviously, the audience rating of the program is really high because the themes of this program are exciting for lots of viewers.

As for me, the story lines in those soap-operas seem unreal and too dramatic. My grandfather loves all news programmes and documentaries devoted to our history.

Times have changed and many people have already refused watching TV. I remember that we used to watch it every evening when I was a kid. Parents came home after work, mother cooked dinner and we switched it on to find out about the latest news in the world. Of course, we all had favourite TV programmes and often quarreled who would choose the channel.
I’ll tell you a bit what I used to watch really often. My favourite TV show was Whisker-Paw-Tail, it is a programme about animals. There were funny video with pets, domestic and wild animals where they behaved like people or did cute things. We liked to participate in a quiz where we had to look at the picture and guess whether it was a male or female animal. That was cool. I still enjoy watching videos about animals; however, I do it on YouTube now. This site is more convenient if you know what you’d like to watch.
Just write key words in the search engine and here you are – you’ve got a list of videos to choose. Fortunately, those who can’t decide themselves may use the option of random search; it selects videos instead of you.
My parents liked watching crime series and detective stories. You’ve lost a lot if you have never seen The Investigation with Leonid Kanevsky or Criminal Russia! Unfortunately, it was forbidden to watch violent parts of the programmes, I liked to follow detective’s way of thinking and suggest who was a criminal.
As for my family and me personally, we don’t watch TV nowadays. Every member of my family has a gadget like a phone, a tablet or a laptop so we can watch what we like on the Internet. No more fights for the TV controller!
