Valentine’s Day.
– ST. VALENTINE’S DAY is celebrated on February 14. Every St. Valentine’s Day thousands of people travel to a small village on Scotland’s border with England to get married. The village is called Gretna Green.
It was the first stop across the border. Many young couples came to Gretna Green to get married there.
– Nowadays, in this place, at least one couple gets married every day of the year. On this day boys and girls, sweethearts, husbands and wives, friends and neighbours exchange greetings of affection and love. People send each other greeting cards, chocolates and flowers. Valentine’s cards are very colourful, with a couple of human hearts on them.
One of the best presents on St. Valentine’s Day are flowers. Let’s listen to the poem “Flowers”.

Christmas day is the most popular holiday. It is celebrated on December 25. People try to be with their families on that day. They make or buy Christmas cards and send them to their friends, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. They decorate the Christmas tree with coloured lights and toys. On this day many people go to churches, eat a Christmas dinner of roast turkey and Christmas pudding. Many people watch the Queen’s Christmas broadcast on TV. One of the most important Christmas traditions is giving presents.
Family members wrap up their gifts and leave them at the bottom of the Christmas tree to be found on Christmas morning. People say that at night Father Christmas puts presents into the stockings, which children usually hang on their beds. This day is a traditional day for meeting relatives and a special day for сhildren.

There are many symbols of X-mas. They create beautiful atmosphere in our houses. You are to choose those things (dishes, decorations, symbols). We shall have 2 teams, each containing 5 boys and girls.

– On the 31 st of October in GB there is a nice holiday for children Halloween. It isn’t an official holiday. but it is a very special day. People put pumpkins on the window-sills. They draw eyes. noses and mouths on the pumpkins and put candles into them. So the pumpkins look like a face.
Children dress in fancy costumes as witches, ghosts,, or characters from TV programmes, and so on. The windows of many houses are brightly decorated on Halloween. In the evening groups of children go from house to house, knock at the doors and say «Trick or treat «(Угощение или шутка) (Which means «if you don’t treat us to something tasty, we shall play a trick on you»). People give them sweets, fruits, cakes or money.
This is a nice, funny and «tasty» holiday, isn’t it?

WALT DISNEY AND HIS HEROES
Walt Disney was born Chicago, his father being Irish Canadian, his mother of German-American origin. He revealed a talent for drawing and an interest in photography early on and after service with the American Roy Cross in the First World War. In 1923 he left with his brother Roy for Hollywood and for some years struggled against poverty while producing a series of cartoon films. In 1927 he had some success with the series called «Oswald the Lucky Rabbit», but it was not until September 1928, when «Steamboat Willie» appeared, the first «Mickey Mouse» with sound, that he achieved lasting success. Mickey Mouse became a household word together with such companions as Minnie, Pluto, and – perhaps the favourite of them all – Donald Duck.
«The Three Little Pigs» and «Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs», with their still familiar songs by Frank Cherchill, immediately spring to mind. After the Second World War Disney turned his attention to real-life nature studies and non-cartoon films with living actors. After a rather unsuccessful feature cartoon «The Sleeping Beauty», he made a triumphant come-back with the very successful «Mary Poppins».
In 1955 he branched out into a different enterprise – «Disneyland», a huge amusement park in southern California. Disneyland is situated 27 miles south of Los Angeles, at Anaheim. Of all the show-places none is as famous as Disneyland. This superb kingdom of fantasy linked to technology was created by Walt Disney.
The park is divided into six themes and there is so much to see and do in each that no one would attempt to see all of them in one visit. For extended visits, there are hotels nearby.
Walt Disney died in California at the age of 65. His works have given so much pleasure for many years to many people, young and old, in many countries.

Внеклассное мероприятие на английском языке
Многие школьные учителя замечают, что дети часто не хотят учить английский язык, скучают на уроках и “забывают” сделать домашнее задание. Почему нет мотивации? Познавательный интерес нужно постоянно развивать, соединяя английский с увлечениями и желаниями учеников.
При правильной организации внеклассные мероприятия помогут:
- мотивировать детей к изучению английского языка;
- познакомить с культурой англоговорящих стран;
- развить творческие способности, фантазию;
- развить когнитивные навыки;
- выделить лидеров и способствовать их росту в этой роли;
- улучшить отношения в коллективе;
- развить навыки групповой и самостоятельной работы;
- улучшить лексические и грамматические навыки английской речи.
Это универсальный инструмент, но только в умелых руках. Подготовка и проведение массового внеклассного мероприятия требует активного участия педагога, учеников, а иногда родителей и других учителей школы. Важно соблюдать принципы внеклассной работы:
- Ориентация на личность учащихся, их интересы и потребности.
- Учет возрастных особенностей.
- Опора на знания учеников по предмету.
- Добровольность участия.
- Массовость (возможность привлечения всего коллектива учащихся).
- Отсутствие строгой регламентации (форма, место и время проведения зависят от выбора учителя и учеников).
Учителю нужен интересный сценарий, предполагающий посильное участие всего класса, и дающий возможность проявить себя в творческой и/или игровой деятельности. В Интернете есть готовые разработки внеклассных мероприятий ( Kopilkaurokov , Педсовет , Современный учительский портал , Uchportal ), интересные варианты публикуют в книгах (например, Внеклассные мероприятия по английскому языку. 5-8 класс или Английский язык. 2-11 классы. Внеклассные мероприятия ). Их можно использовать целиком или составить свой сценарий, используя наиболее яркие идеи.
Вот некоторые формы организации, вариантов много и каждый найдет что-то для себя:
- концерт (например, Рождественский концерт на английском ),
- неделя/день иностранного языка ,
- олимпиада ,
- конкурс ( конкурс чтецов ),
- музыкальный вечер ( пример ),
- спектакль ( инсценировка сказки ),
- викторина ,
- дискуссия ( внеурочные обсуждения ),
- конференция ( пример ),
- игра ( интелектуальная игра «Что? Где? Когда?» ),
- фестиваль ( пример ),
- соревнование и т. д.
Внеклассное мероприятие может включать различные формы организации и работы: групповую, парную, индивидуальную. Место проведения будет зависеть от формы, количества человек и возможностей учителя и родителей (то есть от класса до концертного зала города). Дети с удовольствием покажут свои таланты, ваша задача — вплести номера в общую логику сценария, например, сказку “Щелкунчик” перед Новым годом или тему (например, “Экология”, “Безопасный интернет”, “Культура англоговорящих стран”).
Особенности организации:
Ученики начальной школы нуждаются в большем руководстве учителя, чем старшеклассники. Дети 9-11 классов (хотя и достаточно мотивированные) смогут подготовиться сами, учитель в этом случае выступает только в роли консультанта. Репетиции (например, перед спектаклем или концертом) позволят детям чувствовать себя уверенно во время выступления.
Постарайтесь привлечь родителей, они помогут детям запомнить роли/нужную информацию, возможно, подберут костюмы или другие необходимые аксессуары. Их активность вдохновит учеников, и сделает выступление действительно запоминающимся событием. Лояльность коллектива школы также важна — информируйте завучей о предстоящих выступлениях, интересуйтесь мнением коллег. Это даст свежий взгляд со стороны, позволит использовать, к примеру, актовый зал или школьную технику (большой проектор, колонки).
Неделя иностранных языков позволит сделать мероприятия на английском языке общешкольными. Она обычно включает активности для разных классов (концерты, проекты, конкурсы, спектакли, игровые занятия). Ученики привыкли к тематическим неделям по другим предметам, поэтому участие становится более массовым, а неделя превращается в праздник — дети ожидают интересных мероприятий и готовы принимать в них участие.
По окончании внеклассного мероприятия учителя пишут отчеты для школы, новостной бюллетень для стенда, обдумывают, что можно будет улучшить в следующем году и, конечно, стараются поддерживать возросшую мотивацию учеников к изучению английского языка. Игровые элементы, сценки, дискуссии уместны и на обычном уроке.
